Wow… that pretty much sums up my feelings for this weekends premiere of my fixed gear bike documentary BOIKZMOIND… Wow. I was absolutely blown away by the turnout and reaction to the film, myself and co-editor Jonny Clooney were quite nervous as the time loomed ever closer, wondering if people would enjoy it!
Lucky for us, the reaction was so positive, people seemed to enjoy the film, wether or not they were into bicycles. The film itself is really about the community and the spirit of riding a bike, rather than focusing too narrow on the subject, I like to see it as a celebration of riding fixed gear bikes.
I think we had nearly 300 people come out to see the film, which screened outdoors in the open in Bristol’s Millennium Square. It was free & open to all and the weather was good to us. Just as the film’s intro started, the heavens let out a few drips of rain, only to stop minutes later, gracing us with a pink sunset and double rainbow, the gods definitely looked down on me this weekend!
I cannot thank everyone enough for coming out to check out the film, it really does mean so much that they took the time to come see what it was all about. Of course the whole thing wouldn’t exist without the fantastic community of riders here in Bristol & the South West, as well as the many talented people that have leant me their skills, talents & knowledge, enabling me to make the film, I’m eternally in their debt.
This is just the beginning, with at least 10 screenings planned for different cities whilst I work on getting the DVD created (not just any DVD, a big 30cm square photo book with the disc inside it). Keep up to speed with everything on the website here or the Facebook or Twitter account.
One final thank you to the guys at the Watershed, Tommy & Benje for their help and support in having the screening part of their wonderful Cyclescreen 2011 programme and thank you to Photographer & Designer extroidinaire Nick Hand for these photographs
