Where do I start with this one? With pride I think… I got the incredible opportunity to be one of a bunch of artists who customised a blank MAD Magazine Spy vs. Spy toy to celebrate their 50th anniversary! All the customs are going to go on display at the DC Comics booth at the San Diego Comic Con in July!
After staring at the blank for a little while, I started seeing the nose be a bigger and bigger feature until I had the idea of turning him into Pinnochio! I set to work with my scalpal and started carving in wood grain all over his body, then sprayed him (thanks Richt) a woody shade of brown. I gave him his trademark white gloves and yellow hat, then finished it off with a tiny green leef on the end of his nose.
I call it “I’M A REAL SPY!”
I want to say a huge thank you to Associate Editor Dave Croatto for the opportunity, so stoked!
