After attending last nights fantastic Motion Graphics lecture put on by West of England Design Forum at Arnolfini, I’ve been having a play with Processing after being inspired by Jack Laurence’s work for Nokia, which was a set of beautiful organic shapes which could be manipulated by the client and exported to create unique motion graphics every time!
Y’see, Processing is essentially graphics in code. It doesn’t have an interface like photoshop, it uses javascript code to generate static and moving images, and it’s a whole heap of fun! The simple image above was me playing for half an hour or so and I managed to get it drawing 50% opacity lines but with every move of the mouse it cycles through the colour spectrum and changes its draw point to make this spirograph-style image.
I really enjoyed doing it, I definitely want to play further, it feels more like art than design, setting up some parameters and then letting it do its thing. Most of all, it’s easy and fun, two things I love! Why not give it a whirl, check out processing.org and let me know what you think using my new commenting system below!
