Carrying on from the BAFTA fun in my previous post, here’s a video of Dan & the guys accepting the award then having a wee chat with the lovely Zoe Ball afterwards! Congratulations all!
I am VERY happy to say that last night we (Aardman Digital) picked up a flippin’ BAFTA in the ‘New Media’ section for Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention!
I’m very proud to say I was part of the team that designed & built a website and physics contraption building game to coincide with the television series!
Dan, Ricky, Laura & Karen went down to the big smoke along last night with the good folk of the BBC for the ceremony and we’re all over the moon that they’re returning with a golden mask!
A huge congrats to everyone who worked so very hard on the project, I’m beaming just writing this! :D
Let me introduce you to ‘Papa Cavey’, who is a custom cavey plush that I designed on the computer and the wonderful Holly Stanway aka alittlestranger brought to life, all by hand, for the Cavey Birthday Party event happening next week in London!
Holly says: “At 4inches tall, he’s made from white fleece with gold hand stitched detail and pink and gold felt embellishments. Gold zipper mouth surrounded by tiny hand cut teeth. Hat is removable. Features a ‘Jam Factory’ Fabric label. Weighted in the bottom so he can stand unassisted”
You can see all of the wonderful customs from the likes of Phil Corbett, Jon Burgerman, Sneaky Raccoon and more, all together at the Cavey Birthday Party next Thursday 26th May at the Fleet River Bakery in London, click here for more details!
You can see more more photo’s and details of my Cavey here and you can also bid on eBay to win this one-off plush right here!
Sorry for the delay in recent posts, my flat was burgled and amongst the many things the thieving buggers took, my laptop was once of them, so I’m rendered computerless apart from when I’m at work!
Anyway, something I worked on over here at Aardman recently was a fantastic project with McCann Erickson Bristol, was a takeover of the Nickelodeon homepage for Lego’s new project ‘Ninjago’!
So basically I got to design stuff with Lego, Ninja’s and swords, as the user could wield a 3D-rendered sword and chop up the website in real time!
Check it out in the video above, it was a very fun project to work on!

There’s no denying the fact that I hate most reality television shows. What was once pioneering programming is now an excuse to exploit those on the borderline of insanity and delusion.
One in particular is ‘Britains got talent’. I haven’t seen any of it except the trailers but that was enough to tell me it didn’t contain any real talent, just fodder for the British public to laugh at on prime time television.
The thing is, I know that Great Britain has a huge wealth of talent across all areas, and during a whimsical tweet saying we should do something about it, I decided I should live up to my word, so I started a new blog entitled ‘Britain HAS got Talent’. I basically just want to showcase everything and anything that really shows talent & excellence, from any discipline. Im adding stuff myself but am also encouraging submissions for folk to send in their own work or stuff they’ve found!
So, why not stop by bhgt.tumblr.com and get involved!
I had the honour of being involved in Lunartiks ‘Mini Tea Tour’ where a big bunch of artists customised his ‘Mini Tea’ vinyl toy as part of a travelling exhibition! They were unveiled in Berlin at the wonderful Pictoplasma character design conference!
Well above is my custom, I tured him into one a Plague Doctor, complete with hooded cloak! The standard was incredible, you can see ace photos of each & every design right here!
Big thanks to Matt aka Lunartik for letting me be a part of the fun!
Ouch! today I spent the day in the tattooists chair, getting another Ollie Munden original inked onto my feet! There’s no meaning behind these, I just love Ollies work and really wanted his twist on the classic day of the dead skulls. They were inked by Justin Cota who did the ship on my calf who’s a master with the detail and did Ollies design justice!
I’m going to have to make peace with flip-flops for the next few weeks I think!
Happy Easter from me & BOIKZMOIND! Things have been turned up a notch on the film recently so stay tuned to the facebook & twitter channels, as I’m going to announce the premiere date & location very soon! Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy scoffing a bunch of chocolate eggs, I know I will!

So very excited to give you this first sneak peak of what I’ve been working on at Aardman. So before Christmas I had an idea for a game that I got super excited about, I came and told my colleagues here at Aardman Digital and they really liked it. We’re taking it forward here and although I can’t reveal anything yet, I can tell you that the protagonist is named Dew and the game’s called ‘Dew Drop’…
Anyway, we bought the domain name last week and decided to build a fun teaser to live on the domain. Ben Reid, the resident web genius at Aardman brought it to life using nothing but HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript, utilising and customising an awesome ‘liquid’ script kindly given to us by Hakim El Hattab. The result is a good ol’ fashioned bit of fun and hopefully a bit of intrigue too…
Be sure to sign up to find out the latest with Dew in the future! Oh, and why not move your browser around or double-click the lil’ fella…
A sneak peak of a little something that’s coming real soon, just my wee designs for a certain plush protagonist… Keep your eyes peeled!
So stoked to say that BOIKZMOIND is part of FixedAndWhat’s very first periodical newspaper and it’s an absolute corker! Beautifully designed & put together, they’re FREE and in Bike stores all over the place. If you can’t get your hands on a real one then you can check out the PDF here or click the image above, the BOIKZ interview is on page 14-15!
Thanks to the F&W guys and can’t wait for issue 2, support independent productions!
Whilst watching MPEG Streamclip transcode a terabytes worth of footage for my bike film BOIKZMOIND I stared blankly at the Facebook ‘Like’ button. I don’t know why I didn’t twig earlier that ‘Like’ is a lot like ‘Bike’ and then when I thought that the ‘thumbs up’ icon looks a lot like a hand-gripping handlebars, well I had to do something about it, so here it is!
I’m sure a million people have already thought of this but I wanted to make the graphic anyway! I opened Firefox, went to a page with a Like button on it, used Firebug to change the text of ‘Like’ to ‘Bike’ and then screengrabbed the button. I then blew it up to 4800% in Illustrator, making a grid of pixel squares and then colour-matched each one so at the end I had a vector version of the pixelated button.
I turned the thumbs up on its side and started making the drop bars for either end, matching the pixel-edged colours to make it ‘together’, and here we are, a bit of Sunday graphics fun!
** Update: Ahh I knew it wouldn’t be original, the good people of howies already beat me to it! Thanks to Andrew for letting me know! **
So pleased to finally show you my brand new vinyl toy project ‘Windlets’!!! I’ve been working on this for nearly a year now so it feels so good to finally share with you. I worked with Aardman’s own mad genius Rex Martin to film a launch video to explain what the toys are all about, please do grab a brew and give it a watch :)
