With all the screenings that are happening with BÖIKZMÖIND, I wanted the actual discs I’m sending out to look nice and follow through with the ‘style’ of all the graphics I’ve made for the film, so I spoke to my good friends at Ripe Digital and as luck would have it, they had a template for DVD disc labels.
Aligning the hole in the disc with the circle of the shield was too good an opportunity to miss :)

The old trailer for my fixed gear bike documentary BÖIKZMÖIND was quite a few years old and was put together a long time before the film switched to being a documentary, it always grated me that people were perceiving the film as a one-dimensional sort of affair, when i knew it had so much more heart & soul behind it.

It was after being mentioned on The Guardian’s Bike Blog and the subsequent comments writing the film off as ‘just another fixie film’ that I knew an updated trailer had to be made!

Luckily, I knew that we had a great base for the trailer which is the first sequence in the film, ‘What is a fixed gear bike?’ that shows some great characters plus some cracking riding shots. I hooked up with my editing partner-in-crime Jonny ‘Makinov’ Clooney and we set about layering on and switching up that sequence to make it a bit special.

I’m really happy with the outcome, it better reflects the feel of the film, as the narrative that runs through it is so important. I hope you enjoy it too!

There’s screenings of the full film organised for all over the country and abroad too! If it isn’t coming to a city near you then just get in touch, so happy to help organise a screening all over the world!

Wow… that pretty much sums up my feelings for this weekends premiere of my fixed gear bike documentary BOIKZMOIND… Wow. I was absolutely blown away by the turnout and reaction to the film, myself and co-editor Jonny Clooney were quite nervous as the time loomed ever closer, wondering if people would enjoy it!

Lucky for us, the reaction was so positive, people seemed to enjoy the film, wether or not they were into bicycles. The film itself is really about the community and the spirit of riding a bike, rather than focusing too narrow on the subject, I like to see it as a celebration of riding fixed gear bikes.

I think we had nearly 300 people come out to see the film, which screened outdoors in the open in Bristol’s Millennium Square. It was free & open to all and the weather was good to us. Just as the film’s intro started, the heavens let out a few drips of rain, only to stop minutes later, gracing us with a pink sunset and double rainbow, the gods definitely looked down on me this weekend!

I cannot thank everyone enough for coming out to check out the film, it really does mean so much that they took the time to come see what it was all about. Of course the whole thing wouldn’t exist without the fantastic community of riders here in Bristol & the South West, as well as the many talented people that have leant me their skills, talents & knowledge, enabling me to make the film, I’m eternally in their debt.

This is just the beginning, with at least 10 screenings planned for different cities whilst I work on getting the DVD created (not just any DVD, a big 30cm square photo book with the disc inside it). Keep up to speed with everything on the website here or the Facebook or Twitter account.

One final thank you to the guys at the Watershed, Tommy & Benje for their help and support in having the screening part of their wonderful Cyclescreen 2011 programme and thank you to Photographer & Designer extroidinaire Nick Hand for these photographs

How cool is this!? A gorgeous isometric animation produced by Infection for the TEDxBristol event which is happening on Thursday 9th September! I’m honoured to be speaking at the event with my Aardman partner-in-kryme Dan Efergan, we’re even immortalised with Wallace & Gromit in Isometric form at 52 seconds into the video!

Cracking work from Infectious and all the TEDx team!

Flippin’ heck, I was on the telly! I was interviewed by BBC Points West last night, talking about fixed gear bikes and my film BÖIKZMÖIND! The premiere is tomorrow evening at 8pm, and they did a live piece from the venue, Millennium Square, talking about the screening!
Click the image above or here to watch it on iPlayer - Skip to 21mins 30secs to see it. Big big thank you to Tommy, Benjie and everyone at the Watershed for organising it all, and thanks to Jules & the crew at BBC for letting me loose on the telly!

Very, very happy to say that everything is in place for the premiere of my fixed gear bike film BÖIKZMÖIND here in Bristol next Saturday. The film is wrapped up and has been sent off on DVD to the BBC for compliancy checks (after a 33-hour-straight session getting it finished and exported).
I wanted to do something nice to promote the premiere, so I had the idea of getting some swing tags made up that I could hang on nice-looking bikes, complimenting the ride and hopefully persuading the rider to come along to the premiere to check out other nice bikes!
So now it’s time to pop the tags in my bag and ride around the city, complimenting nice rides! Big thanks to the awesome Ripe Digital who printed them up super fast.

Really excited to say that The Pirates Wanted Poster creator app we’ve been working on is now LIVE! I had the pleasure of designing it, working with the fantastic real-life puppets created for the film.
You can create your own WANTED poster like above, using your webcam or uploading a photo to put your face in place of one of the 9 characters from the film. You’re then given your pirate name and crime, which you can refresh to pick the one most suited to you!
Go to thepirates-movie.co.uk and click ‘Create your own Wanted poster’ to get started. Unfortunately there’s a lot of legal mumbo jumbo so make sure you scroll to the bottom of each legal stuff so you can click ‘accept’.
Oh and you can check out the trailer for The Pirates here (UK version) and here (US version)

Buongiorno! Just came back from a few days in Italy, where 2 friends of mine got married in Tuscany. They don’t do things be halves so they got married in a castle, surrounded by vineyards. It was a stunning day, absolutely picture perfect!
The break was much needed too, as myself and Jonny had been working flat out to get a rough cut of BOIKZMOIND done before we went. Now that we’re back, it’s straight on with getting the film finished in just a week and a half.
Anyway, a huge congratulations to James and Natalie, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer couple.

Last nights live drawing fun with The Dead Sea Mob & Andy Council was brilliant. Had a great turnout of people and was great to chat with friends old and new. I’m a big fan of the ‘mob and great to see them do their thing right before my eyes.
I can’t compete in the drawing stakes, so I decided to get my graphic design on, so I chose a nice circular piece of wall and threw up some symbolism. I’m really into symbols and their meanings, so I took the ‘art of alchemy’ symbol and did my take on it.
All in all a great evening, thanks to those who came along and thanks to the DSM for having me!

Like the rest of the geek world, I’m excitedly playing with Google+ at the minute and really enjoying it, I think it’s going to be a major player amongst Facebook & Twitter, as it seems like a bit of a middle ground between them both.
Anyways, please do add me up if you’re on there: http://gplus.to/jamfactory

This coming Friday, the 22nd July, I’m very excited to announce I’m going to be taking part in some live drawing, as a guest of The Dead Sea Mob as they descend on the mean streets of Bristol. The ‘Mob consists of dark genius’s Godmachine, Drew Millward, Tom J Newell & Twistedloaf and together they form a mighty powerhouse of artists, check out their group show at 55DSL for proof if proof be needed.
Myself and Andy Council will be joining them for a spot of drawing at King of Paint (google map) on Haymarket walk in the centre of Bristol, from 7pm onwards so be sure to come and check it out! Here’s the Facebook event.

Really excited that this is out… the very first trailer for one of the two new films that Aardman is making right now! The Pirates! is the first stop-motion animated feature in 5 years from Aards, so we’re all really excited about it! I’ve been lucky enough to be on-set and see the models and set pieces, they’re simply staggering, absoluely beautiful!

Ive also been working on some Digital magic for the film too, something youll hopefully get to play with very soon!

In the meantime why not enjoy the US-version of the trailer in glorious HD!

Where do I start with this one? With pride I think… I got the incredible opportunity to be one of a bunch of artists who customised a blank MAD Magazine Spy vs. Spy toy to celebrate their 50th anniversary! All the customs are going to go on display at the DC Comics booth at the San Diego Comic Con in July!
After staring at the blank for a little while, I started seeing the nose be a bigger and bigger feature until I had the idea of turning him into Pinnochio! I set to work with my scalpal and started carving in wood grain all over his body, then sprayed him (thanks Richt) a woody shade of brown. I gave him his trademark white gloves and yellow hat, then finished it off with a tiny green leef on the end of his nose.
I call it “I’M A REAL SPY!”
I want to say a huge thank you to Associate Editor Dave Croatto for the opportunity, so stoked!
